Diving in Croatia
Croatia, like any other countries, has its features and differences. And here you will find all necessary information about diving.
In order to practice diving in Croatia, you need obtain a permit from the Croatian Diving Union, which costs 100 kuna (~15 Euro) and is valid for one year. You can get this permission at a diving center upon of a diving certificate and a passport or driver’s license. Valid certificates are: CMAS, SSI, PADI and others. This price is valid for the organised group dive with the local diving centers. If you’d like to obtain the permit for individual dive without supervision of the local licensed diving guides you should to pay about 2400 kuna for a year. There is an additional tax for visiting divesites under state protection.
There are some zones that are forbidden for diving (ports and approaches to them, anchor parking and heavy traffic zones, natural parks and nature protection zones, such as the Limsky channel and the Malostonsky gulf). Diving is also forbidden in radius of 100 m from the military ships standing on an anchor and near protected military facilities. It is necessary to obtain the permit for visiting of national parks Kornaty, Mlet, Telashchitsa from administration of this parks.
Croatia is famous for its wrecks. There are about 12 sunken ships only in Istria which lies on the depth of 25-40 meters. However, there are a lot of wkecks which are under state protection. Diving here needs a special permission from the Ministry of Culture, or you can dive with the licensed diving center that has a special concession. Wkecks which are under state protection are: Baron Gauch, Koriolanus, Hans Shmit (Istra), the Flamingo, Sent Ishtvan, S-57, THAT 45, Francheski de Rimini, and also plane V-24.
